Acceptable Internet Use
Computers are used to support learning and to enhance
instruction. Computer networks allow people
to interact with many computers. The
Internet allows people to interact with a multitude of networks and
computers. All computers having
Internet access must be used in a responsible, efficient, ethical and legal
manner. Failure to adhere to this “Acceptable
Use Policy” will result in the revocation of access privileges.
The Stamford Public Schools Internet account is free to
users. It is considered a privilege to
receive an Internet address. A
responsible user of a Stamford Public Schools Internet account must be a staff
member or student in the Stamford Public Schools.
A responsible user may use the Internet to:
- Research
assigned classroom projects;
- Send
electronic mail to other users within the context of the curricular
requirements;
- Explore
other computer systems.
A responsible user MAY NOT:
- Use
the Internet for any illegal purpose;
- Use
impolite or abusive language;
- Violate
the rules of common sense or etiquette;
- Change
computer files that do not belong to the user;
- Send
or receive copyrighted material without permission;
- Share
his/her password with anyone.
Unacceptable use of the Internet will result in the
revocation of access privileges.
Unacceptable use includes but is not limited to the following:
- Violating
the statutes pertaining to student’s rights to privacy.
- Using
and/or sending profanity, obscenity or other language that may be
offensive to other users.
- Reposing
(forwarding) personal communications without the author’s prior consent.
- Copying
commercial software in violation of copyright laws.
- Using
the networks for financial gain, for commercial activity or for any
illegal activity.
